Our Yin Yoga teacher training – *Module 1 Anatomy & Energetics is a continuing education. It is based on the teachings of Paul Grilley who is one of the pioneers of Yin Yoga. Dianne Harris, the instructor, has studied (and continues to study) extensively with Paul (400+hours). Paul Grilley has given his permission to use his methods and materials for this training. As well he has reviewed and input to our training manual and written the forward to it.

Dianne is 500 hour certified and an Endorsed teacher with Sarah Powers Insight Yoga Institute. Sarah is another of the pioneers of Yin Yoga. The IN-PERSON and ON-LINE training qualifies as the Yin Yoga Anatomy requirement for the * Insight Yoga Institute 500 hour certification.

This is a training to deepen your practice and understanding of Yin Yoga and yourself, as you dive into this powerful and quiet practice.
Upon completion you will be able to skillfully adapt the poses of Yin Yoga to accommodate every individual student. While caring for their needs you will guide them to harmonize the flow of chi in their bodies and help them to understand and reap the many benefits of Yin Yoga
ABOUT: This course is a functional approach to anatomy and the shapes of Yin Yoga. It based on every body being different and learning to skillfully adapt the poses to suit every individual. You will gain an understanding of the methods, anatomy, energetics and meridians affected in the practice of yin yoga. Your learnings will apply to and enrich all forms of yoga you teach.
The course includes a 200 page manual that is designed to serve as an ongoing reference for life. It includes information related to the topics below, plus themed sequences.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN IN MODULE 1:
What is Yin: Theory of Yin and Yang, types of Yoga, yin vs yang, Benefits and the many ways Yin is good for us.
How Yin works: theory of exercise, types of tissues, meridians, Chi and energy flow.
A Functional Approach: Anatomy, skeletal structure, skeletal variations. Muscles & Myofascial groups. Safety. Restrictions. Compression and tension. Functional approach. Responsibility.
Exploring the poses: Analysis of the poses, target areas, deepening and softening, safety. Adjusting the shapes using the key parameters and essential elements and an understanding of the skeletal system, muscles and myofascial groups.
The Practice:Guidelines for practice of Yin, coming in and out of poses, cueing and embodiment, safety, adjusting. The magic of the practice, exploring the poses. Practicum.
Psychology of teaching: a non-dogmatic approach, variety in practice, holding space particular to yin yoga, nurturing the experience, various arcs of a class, priming the energy, sequences and sequence building.
Energetics in practice: Chi, meridians, chakras. Shapes and energetic targets. Fostering and harmonizing a healthy flow of chi. Understanding the Rebound, it’s importance, feeling and energetics of the poses; physical, mental, emotional.
References & Resources: A reference manual (over 200 pages) is included in the program. Students are given recommendations for other resources and teachings.

*Module 1 is everything needed for already certified yoga teachers to skillfully and confidently teach Yin Yoga after Module 1. Once you have taken Module 1, you are eligible to take future modules which build on the first as it interweaves inner practices into Yin Yoga and is based on the generous teachings of Sarah Powers. From Buddhism, meridians, chakras, meditation and other ancient health practices you’ll dive more deeply into this practice.
